How can I change something in an entry to make it not turn into html. For example < mindless nonsense > blah! < / mindless nonsense > (minus the spaces) so that it wouldn't disapear when i post it?

hey, i am giving my journal a makeover. i like how the entries are to the side, and i keep trying to post a picture so it goes to the other side of my entries. and i only want one image of it, but it keeps going as the entire background, and making my entries go to the center. i am probally not making any sense, but if you know what i am saying could you help?

Oh, and I was also wondering if anyone could kinlyyyyy tell me how i could add a graphic to my journal that covers the add. I've seen this before. And if not that, then how can I add a box at the very bottom of my page like this journal has? (where it says the copyright stuff)
