IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM COMMUNITY CO-MAINTAINER

This post appears at the top of every LASTN view in this community, so try not to get confused... =P

Before posting in , please read the DeadJournal FAQ, the community's memories, the howto community and the current tutorial list.

From now on, any posts that are not regarding HTML or journal customisation, will be deleted immediately. Should you have any problems with DeadJournal (invite codes etc.), please read the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), and, if you still cannot find the solution to your problem, please sumbit a support request.

This community has vastly grown over the past few months, due to its use in the support area. We are now having quite a lot of posts. If you are familiar with HTML and can easily manipulate the coding, please feel free to help out here, or with the many customisation requests on the support board. We are always looking for new support volunteers in support, and, as the amount of users at DeadJournal increases, so do the amount of questions asked there.

Please DO NOT use the email form on this community's main page for asking questions. f_it and I are now receiving emails asking for layout help. That said, layout requests will also be deleted from this community. We do not completely make layouts for anyone at DeadJournal (although I may make exceptions once in a while).

Also, please read the community rules on this community's userinfo page before posting. Any posts which breach the rules will be deleted without warning.

Please enjoy using this community for gaining information, sharing your knowledge and asking new questions that will benefit others.

Subject: Stupid stupid questions......
I know there ridiculous so I'll try to them all out there at the same time::

How do I add links using s1 with Tabular Indent?

How do I change my font size using s2 with digital multiplex, and any other style?

How do I post something on my page that won't be moved down when I post again (i.e. in my main page, not in an entry).

Any help would be greatly appreciated~

Hello, I just have a quick question.

I know there's an HTML code that lets you have a certian amount of journal entries per page. Do any of you happen to know what that is?

Thanks for your help!

I have a question.

I made a layout on Greatestjournal. Being that the coding is the same and this is the only community I know of for help I was wondering if you could help me a bit.

This is the layout I made the dividers into image maps but I cant figure out how to link the comment and read links to it. Because the coding is something that's normally put together in a %%talklinks%% form. I was wondering how I would seperate the two links and code them into my image map. I've tried using %%itemid%% but it gave me the same number in every entry and didnt work at all. If you could help me it would be greatly appreciated.

Subject: Hi everyone.
I just have a really quick question, and I'm hoping you guys will be able to help me.

I'm looking for a way to remove the table AROUND my currents, and still leave my currents in more or less the same place in my entry boxes. I've combed through the tutorials here and the deadjournal FAQ and I haven't seen anything that specific.

If I've missed something, could someone please direct me to it, or if someone can help me directly, I'd REALLY appreciate it.

I'm using a version of generator that I've tweaked slightly myself. The most that I've done with currents thus far, is removed the [ and ] characters, and I am really clueless with removing the table.

Thanks in advance,
-Mel

I was wondering if anyone could take a look at my journal. The border around my entries are supposed to be 1px only. I dont have in my code anywhere, for there to be two borders. So whats in my coding, thats making it do it? I've used your tutorial on how_to for adding borders, but its not working. Any help?

Subject: Banner Trouble.
before I post my new Div Layer design I know the lovely policy of 'Do Not Cover Banner.'

My top image is set to left: 0px; top: 0px; and covers the banner.

Is there a code to set the banner so it over-lays everything on my pages? So that the top image goes behind it?

Tell me if you don't get what I am asking. I'm not sure if I was to clear on that.

Subject: Background help
OK...I have scoured the deadjournal community (as far as I can tell) for help with this issue.

I have a background image of which I linked into my deadjournal via the Style Edit page. Now I wish to make the background image opaque/translucent (whilst allowing the colours and image to remain visible) but I wish for the text, images, links and other paraphenalia to remain 100% visible. Therefore: background image opaque, foreground not.

I've already tried the ~howto journal and the entries there were not helpful, and I messed around with the filtered opacity codes given in an earlier journal entry on this community journal. Perhaps I missed something, but it did not help me very much...I managed to dick around with the opacity of both the background and foreground together, but not seperately.

I wish to do this as to make the text/images/links easily readable/seen despite the background image.

Any help whatsoever would be appreciated. If the above cannot be done, I'm open to alternative suggestions.

Thank you :)

Subject: Bit of a problem..
Hey, I'm having an issue with DJ's new HTML cleaner. I'm getting those "Irreparable invalid markup" errors all over the place. I've tried fixing it myself but I'm not what one would call "HTML literate." I can usually wing it, but right now I'm at a loss.

My styles are public so if somebody more literate than I could look through them and tell me what's wrong and what to fix I'd be very grateful.

Lastn: http://www.deadjournal.com/customview.cgi?user=flamingarrow&styleid=329491
Friends: http://www.deadjournal.com/customview.cgi?user=flamingarrow&styleid=329500
Day: http://www.deadjournal.com/customview.cgi?user=flamingarrow&styleid=329506&day=11&month=07&year=2005
Calendar: http://www.deadjournal.com/customview.cgi?user=flamingarrow&styleid=329504

Again, thanks for any help!

Hi everybody! I currently re-did [info]i_think_mccann's deadjournal, and all went smooth sailing except for the friends and calendar pages.

I was lazy and in the style edit section for those two, I just deleted everything and copy and pasted everything from the last_n section.

Now, as you can see, it's having difficulties and i'm not exactly sure what to fix.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks!

I just logged on for the second time since the
new site layout is up, and I have no idea what happened to my layouts.
I had image mapping and div's etc on them, and now it's all .. screwed up.
Can someone look at it and tell me how I can fix them?
The syles are all public.
All of the pages used to look like [info]virus_of_life,
my community. For some reason only that page works .. none
of the others.

[Error: Irreparable invalid markup ('<table [...] [...]>') in entry. Owner must fix manually. Raw contents below.]

I do my own htmling and use my own styles. Anyways, ever since Dead Journal got a new look my styles are not appearing. My styles were showing my html correctly BEFORE DJ converted to its new look. If you view my page: http://www.deadjournal.com/users/meshell/, it gives me this html mumbo-jumbo;
[Error: Irreparable invalid markup ('<table [...] !important;>') in entry. Owner must fix manually. Raw contents below.]

Now, I can change my journal to the default views, but my custom styles wont appear.

Help!

Subject: not quite HTML
Okay, I get HTML. I'm trying to get my page to look like this http://www.deadjournal.com/customview.cgi?user=scratchtglass&styleid=348452 Instead, it looks like this http://www.deadjournal.com/users/scratchtglass/ I think I need to stick stuff from http://www.deadjournal.com/editstyle.bml into the Override section of http://www.deadjournal.com/modify.bml What I don't get is how to fit my HTML into DJ's. All I really get right now is this much: "GLOBAL_HEAD<=" is the < head > tag in normal HTML, and will apply for all the pages I make on DJ. I think I just don't understand how to use "DJ tags" like 'GLOBAL_HEAD<='. Or maybe I'm just bloody tired. Either way, if someone could take the minute to explain that much to me, I'd be very grateful.

Arg....the newness has screwed my info...
New_shit has a mention of how the html checker is now extremely picky, and will give you "irrepairable markup"...I'm getting that error on my userinfo. I'm only semi-HTML literate, but I ran the stuff through a checker and pretty much all I got was missing "s around values. I checked out the specified tag and don't see anything wrong with it
Clues, anyone?

Hey everyone. I thought this would be a helpful tool to share. Quick-escape is an easy tool that helps convert HTML so you can post it in comments and updates correctly for all your question needs. It's pretty much self explainatory(sp) just copy the code and past it into the box and click the button and it will make the code with the tags you need to past it into an entry or comment to show. Enjoy!
